Our NPQs provide evidence-informed professional development for teachers and leaders at every stage, helping you strengthen your practice and lead improvement with confidence.

Develop the knowledge and skills to lead schools and trusts.
Our leadership and headship programmes support current and aspiring senior leaders to create positive, sustainable change across schools, trusts and the wider education system.

Generating evidence that improves education.
We work with schools, trusts and partners to deliver high-quality research that informs policy, strengthens practice and helps improve outcomes for teachers and pupils.

Established by government, led by
schools and driven by research.

The National Institute of Teaching is a higher education institute established by schools to boost the quality of teaching and school leadership in England. Our research and professional development supports teachers and leaders at every stage of their careers, so that all children, particularly those growing up facing the greatest challenge, benefit.

Our research: driving high-impact teacher education

At the National Institute of Teaching, our mission is to improve the quality of teacher and leader development at a system level. We do this by generating and interpreting research, applying the insights to the design and delivery of our teacher development programmes, and sharing it all with the sector.

“We want teachers and leaders to design our learning agenda. Then we will design our research so that it answers precisely the questions they most care about.”

Calum Davey, Executive Director of Research and Best Practice, The National Institute of Teaching

“It’s the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done, and I’ll hold it with me for the rest of my life. I’m extremely excited to further my teaching career.”

Thomas Beech, NIoT Teacher Trainee, 2024

“The NIoT training experience has been transformative. The balance of practical classroom experience with evidence-based teaching strategies gave me real confidence from day one. Having access to supportive mentors who understood the challenges of early teaching made a huge difference – I never felt like I was navigating this journey alone. I’m now teaching full-time in a school I love, and I feel well prepared to make a lasting impact.”

Leah, Secondary School English Trainee
